I do a lot of dog rescue, but in March I was asked to help re-home a 5-year-old potbellied pig named Oscar. His story is heartbreaking—he was rescued from Tennessee after his owner was tragically murdered, leaving behind Oscar and 13 dogs. He ended up at a farm sanctuary, but it was too overwhelming for him.
I brought him home, renamed him Zane (a nod to his late owner, Suzanne), and gave him a peaceful space with three cat roommates he adores.
A few months later, I saw a little black pig in a Georgia shelter and knew Zane needed a brother. Enter Virgil Tibbs (yes, named after In the Heat of the Night—I’m a fan!). He’s about 9 months old, loves belly rubs, and splashes happily in his mud pool.
Both boys are neutered, and we’re letting them warm up to each other slowly.
